Hooker represents style called Delta Blues. “Delta Blues is a style of the Blues genre that originated in the Mississippi Delta region during the early twentieth century, among the earliest and most influential forms of blues music. It centers on solo or small-group performance with slide or bottleneck guitar, propulsive rhythm, and intensely emotive, often improvised vocals. Lyrics draw on hardship, travel, love, and the supernatural, delivered with a raw urgency that became a hallmark of the region's sound.”
